EU Council approves draft security agreement with Ukraine

On June 25, the EU Council approved draft joint security commitments between Ukraine and the European Union.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Hadja Lahbib announced this at a press conference on Tuesday, Ukrinform reports.

"This morning the EU Council approved draft joint security commitments between the European Union and Ukraine," Lahbib said.

According to her, preparations are underway for the next Council summit to be held in Brussels at the end of the week.

The Belgian minister has not disclosed details of the agreement and when the document will be signed.

As reported by Ukrinform, negotiations on Ukraine's accession officially started at the first Intergovernmental Conference between the EU and Ukraine in Luxembourg on June 25.
