Ukraine seeks to expand cooperation with Council of Europe to promote just peace - FM
Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba is looking forward to working with the newly elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, to promote a just peace in Ukraine.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy congratulated the newly elected head of the Council of Europe, Ukrinform reports.
"Congratulations to Alain Berset on his election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe. I look forward to working together to promote democracy, human rights and a just peace in Ukraine. We are committed to expanding our cooperation with the Council and strengthening its role in securing Europe's future based on the rule of law," Kuleba wrote.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Alain Berset, former president of the Swiss Confederation, will head the Council of Europe for the next 5 years.
According to the results of the second round of voting during the PACE summer session in Strasbourg, he received 114 votes, 46 were cast for Belgian Didier Reynders, 85 - for Estonian candidate Indrek Saar. A total of 246 ballots were processed, and one was declared invalid.
