Ukraine's movement toward NATO is irreversible - Kallas
NATO and its partners must send a clear signal to Russia that Ukraine's path to the military alliance is irreversible and a message to China that supporting the war will greatly harm its relations with democratic countries.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said this on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
She said that the NATO-Ukraine Council was a very important signal, a message that Ukraine's movement toward NATO is irreversible.
According to her, NATO, allies and partners should help Ukraine win this war and support the country fighting for democracy, independence, and freedom.
Kallas also described as important today's meeting with partners in the Indo-Pacific region, cooperation with which is of particular importance in the current security situation. In particular, it will be about relations with China, which the politician called a decisive factor for the Russian war. According to her, it is necessary to send a clear signal that if China does not reconsider its position on supporting Russia in the war, it will greatly harm its relations and cooperation with NATO countries, the EU, as well as in the Asian region, Kallas said.
According to her, the issue of the challenge posed by Russia's growing influence in Africa is also on the agenda.
