Biden brings together leaders of countries that signed security agreements with Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden has held a separate meeting on the margins of the NATO summit in Washington with the leaders of almost 20 countries that have signed security agreements with Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also attended the meeting, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

The White House said the main goal of the meeting was to initiate the so-called Ukraine Compact format.

According to the Biden administration, this initiative aims to confirm support for Ukraine in the years to come.

NATO member countries' agreements with Ukraine include specific provisions on military and financial assistance, as well as training of Ukrainian troops. However, they do not oblige the signatories to go to war in defense of Ukraine.

Kyiv is concluding security agreements with partner countries as part of the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine dated July 12, 2023. In total, Ukraine has already signed 23 such bilateral documents, including with the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Japan, the United States, the EU, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Luxembourg, and Romania.
