European Parliament re-elects Ursula von der Leyen European Commission President
Members of the newly elected European Parliament today, during the first plenary session in Strasbourg in a secret vote elected Ursula von der Leyen as the next president of the European Commission for the period 2024-2029.
According to an Ukrinform correspondent, 707 MEPs took part in the voting procedure.
Among them, 401 deputies spoke in favor of extending the mandate of the current head of the European Commission for the next five years, 284 spoke against it, 15 deputies abstained, and seven did not participate in the vote.
As reported earlier, today a plenary meeting of the European Parliament is taking place in Strasbourg, during which the deputies held a debate and a secret vote on the appointment of Ursula von der Leyen, the incumbent President of the European Commission, to the same position for the next term from 2024 to 2029.
