China to send special envoy to Global South countries for consultations on Ukraine
Chinese Special Envoy for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui will leave for Brazil, South Africa and Indonesia on July 28 to hold consultations on Ukraine.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said this at a briefing on Friday, July 26, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"On July 28, China will send the Chinese government's special envoy for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, to Brazil, South Africa and Indonesia to conduct the fourth round of shuttle diplomacy on the 'Ukrainian crisis' [as China calls Russian aggression against Ukraine]," Mao said.
According to her, Li will hold an exchange of views with key countries of the Global South regarding the current situation in Ukraine and the promotion of peace consultations.
"Our goal is to contribute to de-escalation and create conditions for the resumption of peace talks," the diplomat added.
Mao noted that the "crisis" has been going on for more than two years, but the fighting continues and there is a risk of further escalation and expansion of the conflict, which worries the international community.
"China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, a responsible great power. Our country has always firmly contributed to the political settlement of the crisis," she said.
