Ukraine calls on Venezuelan authorities not to use force against peaceful protesters

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine believes the people of Venezuela deserve to have their will respected, and calls on the country's authorities to refrain from using force against peaceful protesters.

This was stated on X by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhii Tykhyi, Ukrinform reports.

"Free and fair elections imply that every vote is counted transparently, and the results accurately reflect the will of the people. Venezuelans deserve nothing less. The people of Venezuela deserve their will to be respected. Over the last two decades, the Ukrainian people have faced situations in which their peaceful choices were not respected by authorities. We urge Venezuelan authorities to refrain from using force against peaceful protesters," the diplomat said.

As reported, a scheduled presidential election was held in Venezuela on Sunday, July 28, in which both incumbent President Nicolas Maduro and main opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez claimed victory. Opposition supporters took to the streets, protesting what they believe was rigging of election results.
