Orban met with Meloni - they talked about Ukraine

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with her Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban in Rome on Wednesday to discuss support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

This is reported by the AP, Ukrinform reports.

The two far-right leaders discussed the conflict in the Middle East, support for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine based on the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, and the commitment of their countries to the restoration of Ukraine, the Italian government said in a statement.

During the 1.5-hour meeting at the Italian government headquarters, Meloni also congratulated Orban on his six-month rotating presidency of the EU Council, and the leaders emphasized the importance of addressing the problem of illegal migration, calling for increased cooperation with countries of origin and transit to address the root causes and combat human trafficking and smuggling.

As Ukrinform reported, on Wednesday, Viktor Orban met with Pope Francis in the Vatican, they also “discussed the war in Ukraine, focusing on the humanitarian situation and efforts to promote peace in the region.”

Orbán's trip to Italy and the Vatican comes amid recent reports that he is preparing for more trips in December with a so-called peacekeeping mission. Its details are unclear, but according to sources of the Hungarian service of Radio Svoboda, it may include the transfer of messages from Trump to Zelensky, Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Before that, as you know, he had already had several phone conversations with US President-elect Donald Trump.
