Belgium reaffirms steadfast support for Ukraine
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot stated during an address to parliament on Wednesday that Brussels acts on the basis of and in defense of the UN Charter, international law and human rights, supporting Ukraine's legitimate defense against an illegal aggressor.
That’s according to the Belgian Embassy in Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
The head of the Belgian foreign ministry said the Russian regime must be held accountable for its aggression and violation of the laws of war and human rights. He noted that Belgium does not accept a policy of force based on territorial expansion and imperialism, as this would mean "the bankruptcy of our own values-based policy".
During his speech, the top diplomat emphasized the principle of “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, and nothing about Europe without Europe”.
The minister added that Russia must continue to pay the political, diplomatic and economic price for its unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“Belgium continues its steadfast support to Ukraine’s European integration,” foreign minister assured.
Prévot also noted that Russian assets immobilized in Belgium must continue to be used “as far as possible” for the benefit of Ukraine, taking into account the mutualization of financial and economic risks for Belgium and Europe.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the UK has rejected Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s demand for Ukraine’s allies to suspend arms supplies to Kyiv amid any ceasefire.
