No talk of territorial concessions at Riyadh meeting – Palisa
At the meeting between the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), there were no discussions regarding territorial concessions.
This was emphasized by Pavlo Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, on Facebook, as reported by Ukrinform.
Palisa stated that the meeting continued technical consultations on the comprehensive ceasefire, which had been previously agreed upon with the American side in Jeddah.
"We agreed on a ceasefire regarding energy facilities and in the Black Sea, which will take effect upon the publication of a joint statement," Palisa said.
Palisa noted that the Ukrainian side had warned the U.S. delegation that Russia would stall for time and introduce additional conditions.
"We cautioned the American team that the Russians would drag out the process and impose extra demands," he remarked.
He stressed that this once again proves that Ukrainians genuinely strive for a just and lasting peace.
"We are interested in a reciprocal ceasefire and will respond immediately if the agreements are violated," Palisa emphasized.
Palisa firmly dismissed any notion of territorial compromises:
"And regarding 'red lines': there were no talks about territorial concessions. This is all Ukrainian land, which we are fighting for and will continue to fight for under any circumstances," he underscored.
He also highlighted that Ukraine will continue working on effective ceasefire control mechanisms and securing reliable security guarantees, as trust in the adversary is clearly lacking.
As reported by Ukrinform, the White House issued a statement summarizing the negotiations between the U.S. and Ukrainian delegations in Riyadh. According to the statement, the U.S. and Ukraine agreed to ensure safe shipping in the Black Sea, prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes, and prohibit strikes on energy infrastructure in both Russia and Ukraine, as part of the agreements between Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky.
