Jamala to represent Ukraine at Eurovision
The national selection for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest has been completed in Ukraine. Jamala, a Ukrainian singer of Crimean Tatar descent, has been chosen to represent Ukraine with the song “1944”.
Judge, Andriy Danylko (a comedian artist who represented Ukraine in 2007 as Verka Serduchka), Ruslana (the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2004) and Kostiantyn Meladze (composer and producer) gave the highest points to Jamala (5) and The Hardkiss group (6) with the song “Helpless”.
According to the viewers vote with received 382,000 sms, Jamala gained the first place with 6 points, while The Hardkiss obtained 5.
The both contenders got 11 points each. But according to the competition rules, the viewers’ vote has the advantage, and thus Jamala will sing for Ukraine in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
