Forty-nine cases of kidnapping recorded in Crimea under Russian occupation

During the years of the Russian occupation of Crimea, 49 cases of kidnappings have been recorded on the peninsula, 6 corpses with signs of torture have been found, and 16 more people are considered missing.

Leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev said this at the hearings at the European Parliament "Four years of occupation. Ways to support Crimea and Crimean Tatars," a Brussels-based Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"One of the most oppressive crimes of the occupation regime, which in fact distinguishes it from the crimes of the Soviet regime, is kidnapping and killing of people. To date, we have recorded 49 such cases, following which six corpses with signs of torture were found. Sixteen people are considered missing. There is every reason to believe that they died," Dzhemilev told European parliamentarians.

As deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov noted, the Crimean Tatar people remain a powerful political force as 90-95% of them do not recognize the illegal occupation of Crimea and do not consider the territory of the peninsula to be Russian.
