Statistics on human rights violations in occupied Crimea released

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center has outlined the number and main types of violations of the rights of Ukrainian citizens in the territory of the occupied Crimea over the past year.

The data were commented on by Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov at a briefing "Analysis of Human Rights Violations in the Occupied Crimea in 2017", an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"This statistics must be a wake-up call. The misfortunes, which are caused by the events in the East of Ukraine and in Crimea, require the mobilization of society and concrete and systematic actions of the Ukrainian authorities," Chubarov said.

In 2017, the activists of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center recorded in the occupied Crimea:

16 new political prisoners, including 15 Crimean Tatars;

16 killed people, including 13 Crimean Tatars;

16 missing persons, including 12 Crimean Tatars;

286 detainees, including 248 Crimean Tatars;

340 persons summoned for questioning, including 286 Crimean Tatars;

In addition, the police conducted 62 searches over the past year (61 searches were conducted in dwellings of Crimean Tatars); 46 people were arrested (including 42 Crimean Tatars); 104 people were fined (including 99 Crimean Tatars). Public activists also talk about 515 cases of violation of the right to a fair trial and numerous violations of the rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of movement and the like.
