Rivne region boasts most mystical place in Ukraine

Tarakaniv Fort or the new Dubno fortress is one of the most interesting sites in Rivne region, which became the most mystical place for travelers in Ukraine, according to the local website Light.

"The fort received its mystical name from the village of Tarakaniv, near which it is in fact located. This unbelievable place is amazing not only for its legends, but also for its size. Only the tunnel, located under the outer walls, is about 100 meters long. Today we can see only the ruins that were left of a formerly magnificent fortress," the report says.

The fortress was built in the 19th century to protect the western borders of the Russian Empire. During the First World War, the Russians decided that the fort was not much needed so they gave the fortress to the Poles almost without a fight. But then they changed their mind. As a result, the fort, destroyed by Russian artillery, was taken back.

In the years of the Second World War, the new Dubno fortress was handed over to another enemy - Nazi invaders.

According to some legends, the Germans tested a secret weapon in this place. There are also rumors that the fort has turned into a place where ghosts live. They are based on the fact that many soldiers died here in the early 20th century.
