U.S. House of Representatives recognizes Holodomor as genocide of Ukrainian people

The U.S. House of Representatives has unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as the genocide of Ukrainian people.

“The document recognizes the findings of the US Government Commission on the Ukraine Famine (dated April 22, 1988) stating that Stalin and his entourage committed the genocide of Ukrainians in 1932-1933,” the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States posted on Facebook.

To date, both chambers of the U.S. Congress have approved the decisions recognizing 1932-1933 Holodomor as the genocide of Ukrainian people.

As a similar resolution adopted by the U.S. Senate on October 3, this document also condemns the systematic violations of human rights, including the right to self-determination and freedom of speech, committed by the Soviet government against the Ukrainian people.

The resolution expresses its deepest condolences to the victims, the Holodomor survivors and their families, and urges to spread the information in order to raise world community awareness of the man-made character of this tragedy.

The resolution of the House of Representatives, co-authored by more than three dozen congresspersons from the Democratic and the Republican parties, was presented on June 8 of this year by co-chairs of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus Sander Levin, Marcy Kaptur, Brian Fitzpatrick and Andy Harris.
