Ukraine marks Infantry Day for first time
Infantry Day is marked in Ukraine for the first time.
The holiday was established by a Ukrainian presidential decree of April 19, 2019, with the aim of honoring the courage and heroism of warriors of mechanized, motorized and mountain assault military units and subdivisions of the Ukrainian Ground Forces shown in their struggle for freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for the purpose of introducing modern military traditions.
Mechanized, motorized and mountain assault military units form the basis of the Ukrainian Ground Forces and carry out tasks on holding the areas, boundaries and positions occupied, repelling attacks and breaking through the enemy's defense, capturing important areas, boundaries and facilities. At the same time, mechanized squads and tank units are used to surround and defeat the enemy and perform other tasks.
Ukrainian infantrymen are now the most numerous branch of the army and the basis of the combat capabilities of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. They bear the greatest load and play a crucial role in fulfilling the tasks of the Ukrainian Joint Forces.
