Ukrainian Health Ministry doing all to avoid peak of coronavirus - Liashko

The Ukrainian Health Ministry is doing its best to prevent the peak incidence of coronavirus in Ukraine, Deputy Health Minister, Ukraine's Chief Sanitary Doctor Viktor Liashko has said.

"We do not want the peak [of coronavirus] in Ukraine. We are doing our best to prevent a peak load on the health care system. Quarantine measures have been introduced to prevent this, allowing us to stretch the number of coronavirus cases in time. We have some predictions about when we can expect this peak. But we are doing our best to prevent this peak from happening so that we, following the example of Japan, could have single cases with which our health care system will calmly cope," he said at a briefing on Tuesday.

According to the Public Health Center of Ukraine, 549 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded in Ukraine as of 10:00 on March 31. Thirteen people died of the disease and eight recovered. Sixty-nine new cases have been recorded in Ukraine over the past 24 hours.
