Stepanov: No need to strengthen quarantine measures in Ukraine now

Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov says that there is no need to strengthen quarantine measures in Ukraine until April-May.

The minister said this on the air of the Freedom of Speech TV program on ICTV on Monday evening, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"According to our strategy, we do not think we will need to introduce tougher measures than those that currently are in effect, until, let's say, April-May this year," Stepanov said.

According to the minister, compared to April 2020, the healthcare system in Ukraine has been improved.

Stepanov noted that despite criticism, the strategy for countering COVID-19, approved by the  government, yielded results.

“We are getting the desired result from these restraining factors of the current quarantine measures,” Stepanov said.

He recalled that Ukraine recorded 89,000 coronavirus patients during the first week of December 2020, compared with 25,505 patients registered during the first week of February 2021. The number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals has also decreased. In particular, 28,000 coronavirus patients were recorded in hospitals during the first week of December, while currently less than 18,000 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals.
