Liver, kidney transplant operations to be performed in Ukraine this year - Stepanov

All liver and kidney transplant surgeries will be performed in Ukraine this year, according to Health Minister Maksym Stepanov.

“The team of the Health Ministry of Ukraine is constantly making efforts to increase funding for transplant services so that Ukrainian doctors can adopt the best world experience. This year we will double the number of transplant operations performed in Ukraine. In 2021, Ukrainians who need a liver or kidney transplant will not be sent abroad - all these surgeries will take place in Ukraine,” Stepanov wrote on Facebook.

According to Stepanov, over the past year, up to 30 regulations and laws have been adopted and amended in Ukraine to regulate the sector of transplant services. "These are our confident steps to gain full transplant independence for Ukraine. We are building a new healthcare system that we can be proud of," he added.

As reported, in September 2020, the Ukrainian government approved a draft decision "On the establishment of a specialized state institution ‘Ukrainian Transplant Coordination Center”. The main function of the center is to provide organizational and methodological guidance and coordination of healthcare institutions that provide medicalcare using transplant services.
