Leonid Kravchuk remains in intensive care after heart surgery weeks ago – media

Ukraine’s first President Leonid Kravchuk who now chairs the country’s delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbas settlement has been undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit for almost a month already following heart surgery.

That’s according to Kravchuk's press secretary Oksana Sibirtseva who spoke with the Hromadske outlet, Ukrinform reports.

“First President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, who heads the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbas Settlement, has been in intensive care for almost a month following a heart surgery,” the report says.

Sibirtseva confirmed that Kravchuk's health had not improved since the operation. "The dynamics of improvement remain very slow," she said.

For its part, Ukrinform inquired from Oleksiy Arestovych, a spokesman for the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group, to comment on the report, but the latter declined to provide any details.

Earlier, on June 29, Ukrainian media reported that Leonid Kravchuk had undergone a scheduled heart surgery, which went with no complications.

According to other media reports, Kravchuk is currently undergoing rehabilitation in hospital, recovering from surgery.

It is noted that Kravchuk had asked Arestovych not to comment on his health condition.

In 2017, Leonid Kravchuk underwent heart stenting, reports said.
