SBU blocks 65 cyber attacks on government agencies in July

Specialists with the SBU Security Service’s Cyber Security Situation Center throughout July identified and neutralized 65 cyber attacks targeting information systems run by public authorities.

That’s according to the SBU press center, Ukrinform reports.

The result is due to the analysis of more than 31,000 critical information security events.

Any successful detention of a cyber attack is the result of such direct analysis, the SBU says.

For the most part, the main types of detected cyber threats (attacks) included:

  • Connections to command and control servers;
  • Attempts to gain unauthorized access (brute force attacks);
  • Web app attacks; and
  • malware introduction.

As part of the SBU Cyber Security Situation Center operates a security information event management (SIEM) system, able to ensure real-time monitoring of events and allowing for the analysis of the current state of information security. Potentially critical events are handled immediately by security analysts, which ensures that the threats in the national cyberspace are quickly detected, responded to, and prevented.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, in the first six months of 2021, experts with the State Special Communications Service blocked 1.7 million cyber attacks on government agencies.
