Liashko meets with U.S. Secretary of Health
Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Liashko has met with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra as part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the United States.
According to Ukrinform, Liashko announced this on his Facebook page.
Among other things, both ministers discussed cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in preventing the spread and early detection of infectious diseases, a vaccination campaign and expert assistance from the United States on the development of the health care system.
"As part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's working visit to the United States, I, in turn, met with U.S. Secretary of Health Xavier Becerra and his colleagues. This cooperation is aimed at preventing the spread and early detection of infectious diseases, as well as the formation of the adequate response of the medical system to biological threats," Liashko wrote.
In addition, according to him, they discussed the issues of the two countries' response to COVID-19, approaches to the vaccination campaign, the process of administering third (booster) doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and the vaccination of adolescents.
Liashko and Becerra also agreed on cooperation between the two ministries in terms of expert assistance in writing a strategic plan for the development of the public health system until 2030 and the opportunity to start cooperation with the American Medical Association and the American Public Health Association.
Both parties also discussed cooperation with the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration.
Liashko also thanked for the assistance provided in the supply of COVID-19 vaccines to Ukraine, including the Moderna vaccine, which Ukraine received from the United States in July as part of the COVAX scheme in the amount of more than two million doses.
