Fourth special operation to evacuate Ukrainians from Syria ends
On Tuesday, October 19, the fourth special operation to evacuate Ukrainian citizens from Syria ended.
"This morning, another special operation to evacuate Ukrainian citizens from Syria was successfully completed. The life of every Ukrainian and their security is the highest value for our state," Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Hanna Malyar posted on Facebook.
In 2017, it became known that citizens of Ukraine (women and children) stayed in the closed-off al-Hawl and Roj refugee camps in northeastern Syria ("Syrian Kurdistan").
In late 2020, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began to conduct special operations to evacuate Ukrainian citizens from Syria.
On October 19, the fourth such operation was carried out with the help of Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Erbil, Dr. Farhan.
"The final 5th evacuation operation is planned. After that, all citizens of Ukraine will be completely evacuated from northeastern Syria ("Syrian Kurdistan"). Currently, 11 families of Ukrainian citizens remain there. All of them were taken out of the al-Hawl camp, prepared for evacuation, but now stay in quarantine," said the Deputy Defense Minister.
