Ukrainians name country’s top three achievements of 2021

Ukrainians name the victory of boxer Oleksandr Usyk (35%), the success of the national Paralympic team in Tokyo (32%), and the Great Construction project (31%) the country’s top three achievements of 2021.

This is evidenced by the results of the survey conducted by the Sociological Group "Rating" on December 16-18, 2021, Ukrinform reports.

According to the survey, about 20% of respondents also named the expanded list of services in the Diia application, the mass vaccination campaign, and the national football team’s advance to the Euro 2020 quarterfinals the main victories of the outgoing year.

The results of Ukrainian athletes at the Summer Olympics and the implementation of the norm on the provision of customer service in the Ukrainian language as the main victories garnered the support of 15% of respondents each. In addition, 13-14% of Ukrainian consider the adoption of the law on oligarchs and sanctions against Viktor Medvedchuk to be the main achievements, another 7-9% chose the launch of the land market and the open skies agreement with the EU, 4-5% – the launch of the Crimea Platform and the successful performance of Go A band at Eurovision Song Contest. Only 2% of respondents said there had been no achievements this year.

According to the survey results, roads and digital technologies are the areas in which Ukrainians have seen the greatest progress over the past year. More than 60% of respondents noticed the improvement in the condition of roads over the past year. Positive changes in digital technologies in the public sphere (Diia application) were pointed out by almost half of respondents (28% failed to assess).

As for the international image of Ukraine, 20% saw improvement in this area (28% saw no change, 40% – saw deterioration), road safety – 19% (34% – no change, 41% – deterioration), quality of care – 17% (31% – no change, 45% – deterioration), quality of education – 12% (28% – no change, 40% – deterioration).

About half of the respondents did not see any changes in the fight against corruption (37% reported deterioration) and the settlement of the war in the east (34% reported deterioration) over the past year.

The majority also pointed to the lack of change in such areas as hryvnia exchange rate stability and freedom of speech and democracy.

According to the majority, the political and economic situation in Ukraine has deteriorated over the past year, 63% and 70%, respectively. About 20% believe that the situation has not changed, while 12% noticed improvements in the political situation, 8% – economic situation.

The survey was conducted among the population of Ukraine aged 18 and older in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and eastern Ukraine. The sample is representative in terms of age, sex, and type of populated locality. Sample population: 2500 respondents. Survey method: CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews). The margin of error with a 0.95 confidence level does not exceed 2.0%.
