Six more regions may move into COVID ‘red’ zone – Kuzin

A “red” level of epidemiological danger due to coronavirus spread may be introduced in six more regions of Ukraine, Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin has said at a briefing.

"Volyn, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Odesa and Sumy may soon be transferred into the ‘red’ zone of epidemiological danger, as the epidemic situation is deteriorating in these regions," Kuzin said, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

Kuzin noted that the number of hospitalizations in the country decreased compared to the previous coronavirus wave. However, according to him, new cases will likely peak in the middle of February.

“The Omicron variant will soon displace the Delta coronavirus variant. Global trends show that the new variant is spread within eight weeks,” Kuzin added.

As reported, Ukraine recorded 35,014 new COVID-19 cases on February 1.
