Interdepartmental commission on international humanitarian law resumes work

The Interdepartmental Commission on the Application and Implementation of International Humanitarian Law in Ukraine has resumed its work.

The meeting of the renewed commission took place under the chairmanship of Vice Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk, Ukrinform reports, referring to the ministry’s website.

According to Vereshchuk, the commission can become an effective tool for developing joint decisions, ensuring cooperation between public authorities, a platform for uniting their efforts and finding ways and means to solve problems, a platform for cooperation between Ukrainian civil society institutions, prominent scholars and representatives of international organizations.

It is noted that the commission will consist of four working groups: on the protection of victims of armed conflicts; on the means and methods of warfare; on the protection of cultural values; on issues of informational and educational activities related to the norms of international humanitarian law and their observance.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers established this commission by relevant resolution No.329 of April 26, 2017.
