Forcible Russification: "Retraining camps" for Ukrainian teachers being set up in Crimea
In the occupied Crimea, the authorities intend to set up so-called retraining camps for teachers from Kherson, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhia regions in order to shift them toward "Russian teaching standards."
This was reported on Telegram by the Center for Countering Disinformation, Ukrinform reports.
The self-proclaimed head of the occupied Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, announced the setup of summer "retraining camps" for teachers from Kherson, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhia regions. This will be done to shift them toward ‘Russian educational standards,’” the statement said.
It is noted that the so-called "Russian educational standards" will be applied to Ukrainian children abducted from the occupied territories.
“They want to force them to learn Russian because, according to the occupiers logic, children from Ukraine don’t speak their language well enough,” according to the Center for Countering Disinformation.
"Abduction of Ukrainians by Russia is a violation of international law," the Center said.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center has posted a video on Facebook in which the so-called "head" of Crimea says that the curriculum for the transition of Ukrainian teachers to so-called "Russian educational standards" will have been formed by this summer.
As reported, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Liudmyla Denisova said that in the temporarily occupied areas of southern Ukraine, Russian invaders impose Russian language classes in local educational facilities. In Berdiansk, Zaporizhia region, a significant number of school principals and heads of education departments have filed resignation letters, not willing to work under the supervision of the occupying power.
