Vyshyvanka run held in New York

A vyshyvanka run dedicated to Ukraine's Independence Day has been held in New York's Central Park, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

More than a hundred participants ran 2.5 miles (about 4 km), starting near the Ukrainian Institute of America.

After the "adult" race, the children had to overcome a 100-meter distance.

Anna Shpook, the founder of the Ukrainian Running Club New York, said the event, initiated in Ukraine, had been held simultaneously in different cities across the globe.

According to her, the club has been operating since 2007, and this run in traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts was already the sixth one. Participants in the run could make a donation. The funds will be used for humanitarian purposes in Ukraine, Shpook said.

"In addition, our goal is to once again draw the public's attention to Ukraine in connection with our national holiday, as well as six months of Russia's all-out war against Ukraine," she said.
