Group of enemy fire spotters neutralized in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region
A multifunctional network of Russian intelligence assets was exposed in Kharkiv region. The group is believed to have been helping the invaders adjust their missile and artillery strikes.
That’s according to the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Ukrinform reports.
"The traitors acted on the orders of the Russian military intelligence (colloquially known as the GRU), fulfilling a wide range of tasks. In particular, the exposed enemy accomplices would gather and hand over to the Russians sensitive data on the deployment of Ukraine’s Defense Forces and military equipment; be engaged in spotting enemy fire and reporting on the aftermath of Russian missile and artillery strikes on targets in Ukraine; as well as ‘hunt’ for HIMARS," the report says.
As noted, the network was set up by two Kharkiv residents, who formed a pool of informants from among their acquaintances and friends, whom they exploited without revealing their malign intentions.
Both culprits agreed to cooperate with the Russian government for ideological reasons, also being promised high posts in the occupation administration should the Russian forces gain ground. They also received a monetary reward for each piece of intelligence tarnsferred.
One of them moved to the temporarily occupied territory at the onset of the full-scale invasion and continued his subversive activities from there. That’s despite the fact that his son serves with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fighting against the invasion forces.
The SBU has detained and pressed treason charges against a Russian military intelligence asset who operated in the territories controlled by Ukraine’s government. The suspect shall be remanded in custody pending trial, the court ruled.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the SBU discovered a torture chamber set up by the invaders near one of the largest Orthodox Christian shrines of Donetsk region, the Sviatohirsk Lavra.
