Christmas tree being decorated in Sophia Square

A symbolic Christmas tree of invincibility is being decorated in Kyiv’s Sophia Square. Corresponding assembly works are near completion.

The relevant statement was made by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“This year the country’s main Christmas tree will be artificial, 12 meters high. It will be decorated with energy-saving lights powered by a generator. The Christmas tree will glow, most likely, at certain hours,” Klitschko wrote.

In his words, a device charging point will be located nearby. The tree will be decorated with ornaments in Ukraine’s national colors.

“The Christmas tree is being decorated with toys from previous years, about 1,000 blue and yellow balls, and white pigeons. The top of the main Christmas tree will be crowned with Ukraine’s coat of arms. The lower part of the Christmas tree will be decorated with the flags of countries that help Kyiv to cope with the war-related challenges and consequences,” Klitschko noted.

According to Klitschko, this year’s Christmas tree has been installed and decorated at the expense of benefactors and businesses. The generator was also provided by charity givers. There will be no mass entertainment events, food courts, trade fairs or amusement rides in Sophia Square this year.
