UNHCR: Number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe reaches almost 8 million
Number of Ukrainians who left for European countries after the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion has reached 7,915,287 people.
Such data is provided by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Ukrinform reports.
As noted, since February 24, more than 17 million people have left Ukraine for European countries, and more than 9.1 million people have returned to Ukraine.
UNHCR says that the majority of Ukrainians – 8.6 million – crossed the Polish border, of whom 1.5 million officially registered in the country and 6.5 million already returned to Ukraine.
In addition, 739,000 Ukrainians went to Moldova, 371,000 of them returned to their homeland. More than 1 million Ukrainians went to Slovakia, of whom 807,200 already returned, 1.7 million Ukrainians went to Romania (1.4 million returned), 2 million went to Hungary (the exact number of those returned is unknown).
