Demographic situation worsening in occupied Crimea - MP

The demographic situation is deteriorating in Russian-occupied Crimea, and the local population is aging.

Olena Shuliak, the head of the Servant of the People party, said this during the Crimea Wave forum, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The occupied peninsula continues to age, despite the fact that the population of Crimea and Sevastopol has grown by about 35% in recent years. The demographic situation in Crimea is getting worse every year, with the birth rate continuing to fall," Shuliak said.

According to her, Crimea continues to lose creative young people. "Isolation of the peninsula from the world community and militarization being carried out by Russia have created terrible conditions for doing business in Crimea. In the past nine years, Russia has turned our Ukrainian cheerful Crimea into a gloomy military base," she said.

Shuliak also noted that the militarization of young people continues in Crimea.

"There are 874 units of the so-called Yunarmy on the peninsula, and their total number exceeds 29,000 people," she said.
