Zaporizhzhia City Council votes to end ties with UOC-MP

Deputies of the Zaporizhzhia City Council voted to terminate the relationship between the city's territorial community and the UOC-MP.

Anatoliy Kurtev, the secretary of the city council, reported this on the website of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, according to Ukrinform.

"The main decisions made at the 19th session of the city council: Termination of relations between the city community and religious organizations of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate as organizations whose governing bodies are located in the territory of the aggressor state," the statement reads.

The information on the results of the 19th session of the Zaporizhzhia City Council states that this decision approved the Appeal of the deputies of the Zaporizhzhia City Council to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to amend the legislation to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.

Members of the city council called on the clergy and parishioners of the UOC-MP to leave the ranks of this church and sit down at the negotiating table with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, 42 out of 43 council members were present in the meeting room during the voting. 34 approved the decision, eight abstained.
