Georgia checking legality of data processing through YandexGo
The Personal Data Protection Service in Georgia has launched an inquiry to investigate the legality of data processing through the YandexGo application.
This was reported by Georgia Online, Ukrinform saw.
The agency vowed public updates on the outcome of the probe.
At the same time, the officials have warned citizens that before using the program, they should look into specifications in order to find out exactly what data on their device may be accessible to other parties, and only after that should users decide whether to download the app.
It is noted that the Russian FSB will soon get permanent and full access to the databases of the Russian company Yandex. People’s personal data, such as their name, bank information, location, preferences, contacts, etc. will thus become available to Russian security operatives.
According to Meduza, it is about passenger transportation companies that are part of Yandex — Yango and Yandex Go. Yandex Taxi operates in Georgia under the name of Yandex Go.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Ministry of Digital Development of Kazakhstan announced that Yandex operations were suspended in the country in the wake of reports of the transfer of user data to the FSB.
