Ukrainian Flag Day: State leadership attends solemn ceremony
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and the country’s top political and military leadership took part in the ceremony of raising the State Flag of Ukraine.
A special video released on the occasion of Flag Day was posted on the YouTube channel of the Office of the Ukrainian President, Ukrinform reports.
This year, in the very heart of Ukraine, on the Pechersk hills, a special flag was raised, which passed along the entire defense line and on which Ukrainian defenders left their signatures and wishes.
"On this flag there are special words and signatures left by special people. These are our soldiers, our defenders, our warriors who fight for freedom, for Ukrainians, for independence, and for Ukraine. This flag was at the positions of our soldiers from Chernihiv to Odesa, along the entire line of defense in Ukraine, in various combat brigades and units," the president said, speaking at the solemn ceremony.
The head of state noted that every year, on August 23, Ukraine celebrates its National Flag Day and every year, Ukrainians pay tribute to the Ukrainian shrine.
"This is our symbol, this is our talisman, this is our blue and yellow flag. Our flag is our pride that we feel when our flag flies high, when we celebrate our holidays, when we achieve our victories, when we take back our lands. Our flag is our confidence that he will definitely prevail wherever it should be by right - on our entire sovereign territory. An unshakable belief in this is in each and every one of us," Zelensky emphasized.
According to the president, “the flag is our strength, a source of will, indomitable spirit for all soldiers who go into battle with this flag on their armor and under their hearts, fighting for every meter of our land, going forward, and achieving our victory.”
The flag, Zelensky noted, is also a memory and a tribute to all heroes from different eras who defended the Ukrainian land and sacrificed their lives for Ukraine and all Ukrainians.
All those present at the ceremony honored the memory of Ukrainian soldiers with a moment of silence.
