The head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration (RMA) Ruslan Kravchenko and Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries Timur Tkachenko checked the state of the shelters in the Kyiv region.

According to Ukrinform, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported this on Facebook.

According to Tkachenko, a couple of weeks ago he received information that in Sofiyivska Borshchahivka, in one of the buildings of the Anthracite residential complex, residents of nearby high-rise buildings were not allowed to enter the underground parking lot to wait out the danger during an alarm.

"I intervened in this story. During the day, the situation was resolved through negotiations with the developer. The underground parking lot was opened and allowed to be used as a shelter during the alarm," said the head of the RMA.

He clarified that "cases of restricting access to shelters are rare. This is strictly controlled by us and law enforcement officials. We check all complaints thoroughly".

The head of the RMA informed that "in general, there are more than 2.100 shelters in Kyiv region. The vast majority are almost 1.600 simple shelters. We are using all possible resources to repair the unsuitable ones. Repair and restoration works are underway at more than 180 facilities."

"Today we checked the situation with the arrangement of shelters in the region together with Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries Tymuriy Tkachenko. We visited some school shelters in Vyshneve, Hatne, Kriukivshchyna, Sofiyivska Borshchahivka and Shpytky village," the statement reads.

According to the head of the RMA, "some are better equipped, some are a little worse. But in general, the shelters we visited are quite suitable for a comfortable and safe stay of children. Some are dual-purpose. When there are no lessons, sports sections or clubs are held there."

He reminded that "in total, there are more than 1.200 civil defense facilities in educational institutions. We are already building shelters in 18 schools and kindergartens, and repairing 35 educational institutions. By the way, today only 3% of schools in Kyiv region work remotely due to the lack of shelters. But we plan to solve this problem by 2024."

"The results of the offsite meeting were summarized by the administration. There is still work to be done. Because shelters have become an integral part of our everyday life. Therefore, we must ensure complete safety for the residents of Kyiv region," Kravchenko said.

As Ukrinform reported, last year, 488 civil defense facilities were set up in kindergartens in Kyiv region, most of them are simple shelters.
