Zelenska discusses school projects with OECD representative

During a video conversation, First Lady Olena Zelenska discussed the interaction between students and teachers and the implementation of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Programme projects with Andreas Schleicher, Director of the Education and Skills Directorate of the Intergovernmental Organisation for the Promotion of Economic and Social Well-Being of People in the World (OECD).

The First Lady announced this in a message on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"I had an interesting video conversation with Andreas Schleicher, Director of the OECD Directorate for Education and Skills, an intergovernmental organisation for the promotion of economic and social well-being of people in the world. Schleicher is also a great friend of Ukrainian education. Recently, with his help, Ukraine joined DOSEN, an international study designed to improve understanding of students' social and emotional skills, including how these skills are linked to their key life outcomes," Zelenska said.

She added that the conversation with Schleicher took place on the eve of the EdCamp National Education Conference "Point of Resilience - 2024".

"Andreas Schleicher noted the particularly strong bond between students and teachers that he had noticed in Ukraine. This is very important, because in times of crisis, our teachers become a real guide for children, especially mentally," the First Lady shared the details of the conversation.

Olena Zelenska also explained how the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Programme helps both teachers and students.

"Right now, together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, we are implementing an adaptation of the American course on social and emotional learning. Teachers will soon be able to use these materials to talk to students about resilience and self-understanding," the first lady said.

As reported, in July 2023, Ukraine became part of the first large-scale international study of socio-emotional skills conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in different countries. EdCamp Ukraine became the national research centre.
