Vatican Secretary of State visits Odesa cathedral destroyed by Russians

In Odesa, the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, inspected the Transfiguration Cathedral, which was destroyed by a Russian missile, and got acquainted with the work of the grain corridor.

This was reported in Telegram by the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration Oleh Kiper, Ukrinform reports.

"Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, is on a visit to Odesa region. In Odesa, Cardinal Parolin met with representatives of the Catholic community, got acquainted with the work of the Ukrainian grain corridor, which ensures global food security, and also inspected the Transfiguration Cathedral, which was destroyed as a result of the Russian attack," Kiper said.

He noted that this is the first visit of the Holy See Secretary of State to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.

"We are grateful for the expression of the attention that the Holy Father continues to pay to Ukraine and the establishment of a just peace," Kiper added.

As reported by Ukrinform, Cardinal Parolin, the Holy See's Secretary of State, is on a visit to Ukraine to grant the Ukrainian shrine, the All-Ukrainian Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Berdychiv, the status of a minor basilica and to express the attention that Pope Francis pays to the situation in Ukraine.
