Ukrainians win four medals at Warrior Games so far
Ukraine national team has already won four medals at the Warriors Games in the United States.
As an Ukrinform correspondent reports from New York, Serhii Kalytiuk and Oleksandr Havrylenko won two gold medals in air pistol shooting.
Earlier, Maiia Moskvych and Artem Lukashuk won gold and silver medals, respectively, in air rifle standing shooting.
Since 2014, Kalytiuk served as part of the 25th Separate Airborne Brigade, received five bullet wounds – one in the head and four in the back. He won a silver medal in team archery at the 2022 Invictus Games in The Hague.
Havrylenko has been serving in the Ministry of Internal Affairs since 2010. In 2014, as part of a special police company, he performed tasks to defend populated localities in the east of Ukraine, where he received shrapnel wounds to the back and neck. After recovery, he continued his service in Slovyansk, then in Chernihiv. He won a medal at the 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney.
As reported, on August 19, the Warrior Games international sports competition opened in Orlando (Florida) in which Ukraine national team participates for the first time.
Thirty-two athletes from Ukraine – both veterans and service members with injuries – arrived at the competition.
The Warrior Games, hosted by the U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command, will be held until August 28. About 300 athletes representing the armies of the United States and the Allies will compete.
The competition was launched in 2010 as a way to rehabilitate wounded service members.
