Svitolina to donate prize money from Strasbourg tournament win to Ukrainian children
Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina has pledged to donate all of her prize money from her victory at the Internationaux de Strasbourg tournament in France.
In the final match, Svitolina defeated Russia's Anna Blinkova 6-2, 6-3 to claim her 17th WTA title, according to Ukrinform.
"I would like to share this energy with Ukraine, with my homeland. I will be donating all my prize money from this tournament. It's going to go to the kids of Ukraine, [which is] much needed in this tough moment," Svitolina said.
She also thanked France "for doing unbelievable job welcoming Ukrainians and doing everything possible for them to feel like it their second home." "So thank you so much for everything that you do for us, and together we are going see the light and win this war. Thank you so much. Merci. Slava Ukraini," Svitolina said.
The victory in Strasbourg brought Svitolina 29,760 euros in prize money and 280 rating points. In the updated WTA ranking, she will rise by more than 300 positions and return to the top 200.
