Ukrhydroenergo plans to restore 1 GW of capacity by winter

Ukraine's hydropower operator Ukrhydroenergo plans to restore one gigawatt of generating capacity before the 2024-2025 heating season.

Ukrhydroenergo CEO Ihor Syrota said this during the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 in Berlin on Wednesday, June 12, Ukrinform reports, citing the company's press service.

"We manage to restore part of the damaged equipment within a month. We have to restore part of the equipment by the 2024-2025 autumn and winter period. The company currently plans to restore 1,000 megawatts of hydropower by this autumn and winter period. However, it will take several years to rebuild the main part," Syrota said.

He added that the company does not have a hydroelectric power plant or pumped storage power station that would not be damaged by massive Russian attacks.

Syrota also informed participants in the Ukraine Recovery Conference that Ukrhydroenergo plans to build 2,500 megawatts of new capacities in the medium term. In the long term, the company plans to implement projects for the construction of new stations, including the completion of the Dniester Pumped Storage Power Station and the construction of the Kaniv Pumped Storage Power Station. In addition, the key project is rebuilding the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.
