Macron calls on Lukashenko to demand withdrawal of Russian troops from Belarus as soon as possible
This was discussed in a phone call between Macron and Lukashenko, Ukrinform reports, with reference to the Elysee Palace.
"The President of the Republic asked the President of Belarus to demand the withdrawal of Russian troops waging a unilateral and unjust war as soon as possible, and stressed the need to cooperate with the international community to conduct operations on the provision of humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people," the statement said.
Macron stressed that the brotherhood of the Belarusian and Ukrainian peoples should encourage Belarus to refuse to be a vassal and de facto ally of Russia in the war against Ukraine.
The French president also "condemned the seriousness of the decision, which would be to allow Russia to deploy nuclear weapons on Belarusian soil," the Elysee Palace said.
Belarus stated earlier that it was considering deploying Russia's nuclear weapons on its territory due to a "threat from NATO."
