Chernihiv mayor to residents: No other choice but to brace for urban warfare

"We need to prepare for urban warfare. We have no other choice, we are fighting for our Homeland. We are preparing for mobile communications to be switched off," Atroshenko said.

He called on all able-bodied men to organize round-the-clock patrolling around their neighborhoods and to get in contact with territorial defense units at checkpoints nearby to coordinate further action.

Atroshenko said that the day before, March 1, the enemy pushed its way toward Chernihiv from three directions, employing heavy shelling from Grad MLR systems, artillery, and tanks, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine repulsed the attack.

As reported, the enemy has been shelling residential neighborhoods in Chernihiv for more than a day now. The city center was also subjected to airstrikes. Multiple households and other buildings were damaged and destroyed and many civilians were injured.

As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to invade Ukraine. Martial law was imposed. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on general mobilization.
