West to impose new sanctions on Putin for his "offensive war" - Baerbock

Ukrinform
Western powers are looking into more sanctions against Russia for its war of aggression against Ukraine.

This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Friday at NATO Headquarters in Brussels ahead of an emergency meeting of Allied Foreign Ministers, Ukrinform reports citing DW.

"We oppose Putin's inhumanity to our common humanity. We will do everything we can to end this suffering. This means that, in addition to humanitarian aid and the three tough sanction packages already in place, we will take further action that will focus on Putin's power center," said Baerbock.

The German foreign minister did not specify what the measures would include. This is expected to be the topic of a NATO foreign ministerial, as well as meetings of the G7 and EU foreign ministers on March 4.

Baerbock referred to Russia's invasion of Ukraine "Putin's offensive war." "We see that many Russians – in Russia, but also around the world, particularly in Europe and Germany – are clearly saying that this is not their war. That they want to live together in peace. That this is Putin's war," the foreign ministry added.

As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion. Russian troops are shelling and destroying infrastructure, massively shelling residential areas across Ukrainian cities and towns, using artillery, MLR systems, and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in the country and general mobilization was announced.

Ukraine has filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation with the UN Criminal Court in The Hague.
