Ukraine can and must demand complete confiscation of all energy assets of the Russian Federation across the world in order to deprive Moscow of the opportunity to employ energy as a weapon.

That’s according to the adviser to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, ex-Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Olena Zerkal, who addressed the issue on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

She noted that the shelling of the nuclear power plant last night is the “quintessence” of Russia's entire energy policy.

"After we win, it won’t change. Europe, which is beginning to see things clearly, needs to change… That is why our task is also to document the use of energy as a weapon. And now here’s what can be done realistically. Energy assets are weapons. Weapons are confiscated. We can and must demand complete confiscation of all energy assets of the Russian Federation in the world. We can and must use these assets to fill Ukraine's reconstruction fund," Zerkal said.

As Ukrinform reported, on the night of March 4, Russian invaders fired on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant. Power unit 1 was hit and a fire broke out in the administrative building.

As of the morning of March 4, the ZNPP site was seized by Russian troops, and direct contact with the station's management was lost. The radiation background is currently within normal limits.

Energoatom issued a statement to the world community warning that the shelling was a violation of the nuclear and radiation safety of Europe's largest nuclear facility, which could have serious and tragic implications for the world.
