Nearly 1.2 M Ukrainians flee country since Russian invasion start - UN

Since the beginning of Russia's large-scale armed aggression, more than 1.2 million people have been forced to leave Ukraine, according to the United Nations.

The Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security delivered the update via Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

According to the UN, 650,000 Ukrainians fled to Poland, 145,000 – to Romania, 103,000 – to Moldova, and 90,000 – to Slovakia.

In addition, many families have left their homes and moved to other Ukrainian cities, the UN said.

As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are shelling and destroying key infrastructure, conducting massive shelling of Ukrainian towns and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.

Ukraine has officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation in the UN International Criminal Court in The Hague. ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan has already launched an investigation into the situation in Ukraine, calling on all witnesses to send him evidence of war crimes.
