Condition of power units at Zaporizhzhia NPP controlled by staff, power plant captured by Russian military
The relevant statement was made by Energoatom National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia NPP, after heavy battles and shelling within the industrial site, was captured by the Russian military on March 4, 2022. Currently, the plant’s operational staff is controlling the condition of power units and ensuring their operation,” the report states.
According to Energoatom, power unit 1 of Zaporizhzhia NPP is under scheduled and preventive maintenance. Power unit 2 was connected to the energy system at 06:49 p.m., March 4, 2022, and is gaining power. Power unit 3 was disconnected from the energy system and is undergoing cooling procedures, same as power unit 5 and power unit 6.
Power unit 4 is running with a capacity of 980 megawatts.
Radiation levels within Zaporizhzhia Region are remaining within normal limits; no changes have been recorded.
The city of Enerhodar has been left without heating and hot water supply services, as the main heating pipeline was damaged. Maintenance works are underway.
