Kuleba outlines amount of aid collected by diplomats and Ukrainian communities over week
"Over the first week of the aggression, diplomats mobilized and collected 1,643 tonnes of humanitarian support, 66,384 defensive units, including weapons, ammunition, and equipment. Together with the Ukrainian communities abroad, and my special thanks to them, we transferred EUR 338 million, USD 74.5 million, and GBP 4 million to the NBU accounts and other accounts created to help Ukraine in this dark time," Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Kuleba thanked each donor for their contributions, noting that those achievements were still not enough, and called to step up pressure on Russia and strengthen Ukraine’s defense to win.
On February 24, Russian president Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion. Russian troops are shelling and destroying infrastructure, conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and towns using artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, and ballistic missiles. Martial law was imposed in the country and general mobilization was announced. Ukraine filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague.
