Evacuation from Sumy to continue on Mar 9 – regional governor
Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"The negotiating team worked all night. A humanitarian corridor from Sumy to Poltava will continue to function today, March 9, 2022, from 09:00 to 21:00," the report says.
Zhyvytskyi noted that residents can leave the city by own transport. In addition, 22 buses from Poltava, which left in the first column yesterday, will return at about 14:00.
"Sumy city authorities together with the people's deputies have been searching for transport all night and we will additionally inform about the place of departure of the first column accompanied by the Red Cross," Zhyvytskyi wrote.
As reported, on March 8, a humanitarian corridor was opened for the city of Sumy along the route: Sumy - Holubivka - Lokhvytsia - Lubny - Poltava. Two waves of civilian evacuations were carried out: about 5,000 people and more than 1,000 private vehicles are already safe.
