Number of child refugees from Ukraine exceeds 1M – UNICEF
The relevant statement was made by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), an Ukrinform correspondent reports, referring to Suspilne.
“The number of children on the move is staggering, an indication of how desperate the situation for children and families in Ukraine has become. Children are leaving everything they know behind in search of safety. This is heart-breaking,” UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Afshan Khan noted.
In his words, UNICEF teams will be delivering medical supplies to 22 hospitals in five conflict-affected areas of Ukraine to benefit 20,000 children and mothers.
Six trucks loaded with about 70 tonnes of supplies have already arrived in Ukraine. They include personal protection equipment, medical, surgical and obstetric kits. Additional supplies are on their way from Copenhagen and Turkey and are due to arrive in the coming days.
A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war. Russian troops are shelling and destroying the key infrastructure facilities, launching missile strikes on residential houses in Ukraine.
